Bluegrass World
catch Shania Twain last night

Wow, what a pleasant surprise, with the reigning queen of pop "non-country" country doing such a nice traditional set. When you consider that her last CD was packaged with both a C&W and pop mix, I thought it was pretty cool that we could get to hear an even more organic version of the tunes. I didn't even bother to tune in until it had already been on for 10 minutes; I expected the same old pyrotechnic rock show. I have to admit, hearing Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski doing the harmony on "Whose Bed" was incredible, just as excellent as a great country shuffle can be.

I keep wondering... did the band leap on the opportunity to work with her, or does Shania just have more money than God and threw so much of it at AKUS that they just couldn't refuse? Like Alison, I love trad bluegrbutt but am also wide open to appreciate other genres, and so I like to think it's the former. I'm just peeed that AKUS got so little billing; it was by accident that I even tuned in, but it would have been quite deliberate had I known.
