Not to mention that nearly everything Gibson's made since they left Michigan has been overpriced and underquality. If they were still making axes of the quality of the Lloyd Loar years, the various boutique makers wouldn't have had a shot. My bet is that Mack is new to playing. It's just not justifiable to spend the money on buying anything new from Gibson, as nearly all their compebreastors in the price range of more than half Gibson's prices on up is going to sound better. And there's a lot of good players over the years who have played the F-4 (F-body, but with an oval sound hole), and wasn't it Red Rector that played a A-style? I'd say play as many as you can get your hands on, then decide which one sounds best. I'm not urging a boycott of Gibson, I just don't think they can hold their own, and would be shocked if most of their output stood up against even the mildest of non-Korean-non-Chinese compebreastion.
