See, AM's problem stems from his NOT seeking out that sort of setting. I'd find it safe to say that in a pinkin' shed, parking lot or front porch, he'd find a group of pickers that feel like exploring those same directions. Anyone who's gone to a festival or three knows what I mean. Some sound strictly Bill Monroe-F&S-Jimmy Martin (without the snare drum), while some make music that not even Sam Bush would recognize. AM needs to get out more, if s-he (well, from the argumentative-insulting tone, I think we can safely buttume AM's love male) didn't just enjoy working up into a state of high dudgeon. To an extent. His ideal jam seems to come from either jazz (although even jazz has a great deal of structure, it's just different from ours) or from the "jam band" culture (see Dave Matthews, Phish or the Flecktones), but even there, he doesn't recognize the degree to which those have structure; not seeing-recognizing the structure, he buttumes its nature free-form. Then, he compounds his misunderstanding of what he hears in that genre by taking a free-form approach to an open-mic night at a local bar. He then complains that dictators don't want him around, when he feels 'fitting in' below his stature. To which I'd answer by pointing out how often Sam or Bela lay down stuff that would sound perfectly at home on a Flatt & Scruggs record BECAUSE THE SITUATION CALLS FOR IT. They don't feel oppressed, they either (in the case of a jam session) do it; willingly and for free because it's what the song calls for, or; because the session producer (AM would probably call him-her a strumf*** privatestator) points out that's what he wants to hear, and they oblige -- Lane Gray And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
