Bluegrass World
Just saw Roland White

I just got home from hearing Roland White Bluegrbutt Band at the Wichita Theatre in Wichita Falls. He was brought here to do a charity concert for our local nature center. I've been listening to Roland for a lot of years but it's been a few since I've gotten to hear him live. He had the group from his last album and added Billy Joe Foster on fiddle.

Roland played some of the songs from his last album, a few clbuttics from Country Gazette and such. The harmonies between he and Diane were great. He took some extra solos and sounded real good. Not showoff stuff but just right to add excitement and feeling to the songs. The band was real loose and having fun as they were all old friends on stage. I was a little disappointed that Diane only does rhythm on guitar so a lead guitarist would have added to the show.

One of my favorites was an impromptu "Sittin' on Top of the World" that someone in the audience requested. Being unrehearsed, they just leaned back and let it fly. They finished with "Yall Come" and got the audience to sing along. Between the sets and after the show they all hung out and mingle with the fans. Wish they could have stayed and jammed but they're driving to West Texas to teach bluegrbutt at the college there for the next week.

And that's how it was.
