JigTime MagnoliaFest Reviewed

JigTime News October 29, 2003 Issue 5 Welcome to our regular look at all the news thatās fit to shake a stick at. It has been a quiet week at home just playing the guitar, editing some pictures and listening to some great music. Winter is finally blowing into town with some good rain in tow. We hope that wherever you are it is at least peaceful if not warm and dry. Stick with me though, I have the music news to warmthose proverbial chickenles of the heart.

Papers there might not be, but the research has been attempted before. Notably by one Greg Crockett, who over 25 years ago programmed a major computer ( a Cray, I believe) with all the variables he...

We do send our regards to Mark OāConnor who lives uncomfortably close to the wildfires which are devastating California right now. Our thoughts are with him, though happily in an email he has buttured everyone that they are fine for the moment although the smoke is not making things very comfortable. Our thoughts are also with everyone in fear of this ongoing disaster and the families of those who have sadly lost their lives.

In this Issue Solas on song and thankfully on tour too There are very few bands that have the pedigree of Solas. They are currently on tour to promote the new album Another Day. And what a great album it is too. Read all about Seamus Eganās great band and the wonderful new album

Danœ take the right road Waterford based Danœ are another band on the road this month promoting a new album. I told you I spent the week listening to great music. More trad than Solasās offering it still packs a very fresh and contemporary punch and will keep a little tap in your step for a while to come yet

Hi, Ulf... Hmmm. Not to sound like a know-it-all, but I figured out all that stuff a long time ago by just foolin' around with my...

MagnoliaFest - the perfect end to a great summer. With the rain still in my hair from a walk to the Chattahoochee I had a chance to have a look back at last weekendās amazing Magnoliafest. I almost feel homesick for it already. I just have to make sure Beth and Randy have made my bed made for me or Cathy Lee might find me a lumpy space under the stage to lay my weary head.

Steve Earle in Theaters Now The Pilgrim himself is on the road again with dates all through November and a big screen release for his new documentary.

Quote from Nature: Banjo players love to tinker with their instruments. Now they can do so with scientific backing - a US researcher has analysed the affect of different adjustments on...

I don't want to throw water on your parade - but that information is awfully basic. In just my own narrow experience I've found that increasing the tightness of the banjo neck to the body with...

Altan in the Lowlands It is the turn of the Netherlands to have Altan as their welcome guests as the band head towards the end of another very busy and successful year. The Dutch Tour dates can be found here

Pictures, Pictures As always we have pictures all over the site for you. Most recently we have some from the fantastic Magnoliafest and some from last yearās Music Midtown.

First, make sure that your PA speakers are in front of the stage and that all mics are behind the speakers. Are you using a stage monitor so you can hear? can...

New Links Lots of new and exciting links on our links page from Four Men and a Dog to the Duhks. Is there some sort of pattern emerging here?

Coming up soon on JigTime The Bell Witch is a new movie about some spooky goings on in Tennessee. The great mystery is when it will be released. Oh and the reason it will be on JigTime is because not only is the movie set in my beloved Appalachians but the soundtrack is looking like a winner too with top quality genuine mountain music.. Also we will have a listen to the new album from Sinead OāConnor and a new album featuring the songs of Dolly Parton by some of the most talented singers in the business

Thanks Some thanks are in order this week. Firstly thanks to Tim Lynch for his mention of us in his review of Magnoliafest for the South Florida Bluegrbutt Newsletter. Also thanks to the fine people at will soon find a link to them on our own links page but I know you will be bookmarking Folk Alley as it is an excellent site

Thatās it for now folks. Donāt forget if you know of anything that you think JigTime should this site work so donāt be shy and get in touch. So donāt forget to sign our Guestbook or even make some comments at our Forum

Stay Safe and well

Slan

John
