June 29: David Grier in Solo Concert
This is an event announcement from the Museum of Making Music for bluegrbutt enthusiasts. GRAMMY GUITARIST PERFORMS SOLO CONCERT IN SAN DIEGO SAN...

Yeah, I know - the key of F is the way to go but it completely changes the nature of the song. So does E, we tried everything. This original posting was sometimes back in history and since then Rocksalt and Nails has slipped its way to the back of the repetoir, a pity, as its not a song we really look forward to doing like we used to. "Smooth as a gravy sandwich" is a pretty good way of describing the way you want a song to sound and "play". RS&nails in G is not smooth (for our vocal range) - it needs to be in F - but the musical nature and sound of the chords in F change the whole nature of the song and, in my opinion, ruin it musically if not vocally. We tried F'ing it with a capo on the 5th and playing standard C formation, capoing the 1st and playing from an E position, and of course standard F and even standard E. Hell, theres just too many great songs out there to get our knickers in a twist over just one so if we have to do RS&nails we do and I just pull my underwear up tight - dont think we are gonna get any recording contract for our efforts though. Funny though, when we play it, it seems ok - the cruncher comes when we try to record it on our F160! Even the lead singer strains so you can imagine how purple I am turning while riding it with a 3rd and warbling to a 5th sometimes. lol. I pulled it out of the bag at a festival we attended last weekend and my partner was none too pleased for that moment - and I dont blame him. hbol

Bill your of it neck cold. my
