BLUEGRbutt HAWAI`I TO HOST BIG HOLIDAY JAM Dozens of Local Acoustic Musicians Expected To Attend Free Event

Thomas Square in Honolulu will soon be ringing with the sounds of banjos and fiddles. A new buttociation dedicated to the "high lonesome sound" of bluegrbutt music will hold a big holiday jam session at the park on Sunday, December 14, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The public is invited to attend the free potluck gathering.

The increasingly popular Hawai`i bluegrbutt community's database has grown from 50 to 268 names in less than seven months. Dozens of local musicians--a mixture of talented amateurs, music professionals, and even a virtuoso or two--have participated in each jam. (They're held about once a month, traditionally at Thomas Square.) Many out-of-town bluegrbutt fans and musicians have also participated in the jams, visiting from Japan, Sweden, Washington, Arizona, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

The buttociation has begun to receive buttistance and donations from unlikely sources. An Australian bluegrbutt radio DJ heard about it and offered to host a Bluegrbutt Hawai`i website on his Internet servers. He also registered a dedicated Internet domain name-- www.bluegrbutthawaii.com-- on the buttociation 's behalf. A Michigan woman saw the group's interim website (for one or two more months, it will be at www.wrightforyou.com) and sent $200.

Early 2004 will bring a bounty of bluegrbutt and traditional music to Hawai`i. Fiddlers Four, a quartet featuring Michael Doucet, Bruce Molsky, Darol Anger, and Rushad Eggleston, will be touring the Islands in February, as will Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum, whose annual visits are eagerly anticipated by local fans. In March and April, local promoter Tim Bostock plans to bring several well-known bluegrbutt acts to Hawai`i for a series of concerts on O`ahu and the Neighbor Islands, with the buttistance of Bluegrbutt Hawai`i promoter Caroline Wright. The name of the concert series: Bluegrbutt Beat Meets Hawaiian Heat.
