I recently downloaded a live recording of Bill Monroe and the Blue Grbutt Boys performing a song breastled "The Hills Of Glory." It was reportedly recorded on July 14, 1957 at New River Ranch in Rising Sun, Maryland. I have no band information for this show but a woman's voice is clearly heard in this track, which appears to be a trio. Monroe takes a nice, short mandolin solo between the 2 verses.
This is not the same song as the Stanley Brothers' "Shoutin' On The Hills Of Glory."
AMG's only listing for the song "The Hills Of Glory" is of a Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver recording from 2003, credited to Lawson. I don't know if Lawson's song is the same song as the one that Monroe and his band are heard singing on this download.
Here are the words to the Monroe recording, as I hear them:
There's a home that waits on a hill called glory, there's plenty of room up for you up there For all who believe in the Holy Bible, if you trust in God he'll meet you there I'm climbing up the hills of glory, he calls my name as I knelt in prayer I'm going to join the great reunion, I'm on my way, won't you meet me there
When the roll is called on the hills of glory, will your name be written on the scroll Of the books that's written in the holy bible are the greatest stories ever told I'm climbing up the hills of glory, he calls my name as I knelt in prayer I'm going to join the great reunion, I'm on my way, won't you meet me there
Can someone tell me more about this song and about this particular show? Could that be Bessie Lee Mauldin singing? I seriously doubt it is Melissa Monroe.
Thanks.
